It is a beautiful building. All the latest technologies. Upon entering, we were extremely impressed. Super friendly, great service, quickly through check-in and triage. We got into the room, and the doctor was there almost immediately. All of this within around 30 minutes. From there, it was all downhill. The staff stayed extremely friendly... WHEN we saw them. We are actually still sitting here after 6+ hours waiting. Bloodwork and urine were done basically upon arrival. Radiology was about 2 hours after arriving. The doctor is supposed to be coming in with info. Hopefully, we will be discharged soon..... with some added urgency and less waiting, it would have been a much higher rating.

I brought my husband into the ER and had a nice experience considering the circumstances. Grace and Rich were both caring and gentle with my husband. We are blessed that they were in the ER to attend to him.

The ER failed me. I was sent to ER by the Venice Urgent Care Doctor last Thursday night. The doctor said my chest congestion was so bad that he was not able to treat me. The nurse who checked me in said he wasn't sure what I was expecting that they could do for me? I reminded him that the urgent care doctor sent me here and not my decision. They performed all the tests and I was I was released with them saying that everything was normal and I needed the congestion to work itself on its own. I was told by the ER doctor that I should go swimming to loosen up the congestion, The process could take months? Went to pulmonary doctor this morning and he read the blood work done at the ER and knew with in a minute that one of the red flags was elevated by 10 times. He gave me a shot of Fasenra and I feel almost normal after a few hours and he said it might take 3 days. Even though the ER did do all the testing they had the attitude that I symptoms didn't warrant a trip to the ER.

For a new facility, I had an awful experience. I was involved in a vehicle accident. I went to the emergency room to avoid the extra expense of an ambulance ride. When I arrived, I told them I was just in an accident and hit my head during the accident and was having back and neck pain. They sat me in a chair in the hallway for over 6 hours. No one checked on me, offered me a blanket or anything. I sat there crying in pain while dozens of staff continually walked by and totally ignored me. Once they took me into a room, the gentleman who was asking me why I was there never looked at me. He stated someone would be in shortly. The individual who came in took me to get a CT and Mri. They wouldn't help me out of the wheelchair or onto the table. I seemed to be an inconvenience for them. When done, they said your free Togo. Again, no help getting up and back in the wheelchair safely. In the end, I was billed for over 9 thousand dollars to sit in a hallway for hours in pain, treated like I was a bother. Not to mention, they had no concern for me or my injuries. This is supposed to be a state of the art hospital. It was the worst experience I have ever encountered in an hospital. The staff were rude and didn't seem to want to be there. I felt like I went to some walk in clinic in another country. I left with nothing for the pain. Human interaction was absolutely horrible and leaving an accident victim suffering in a hallway for over 6 hours is absolutely terrible and ridiculous.

Great staff got me in and out quick but my concerns are hopefully someone higher up sees this. Upon admission to the emergency room I was not asked any medication I was taking which should be pretty alarming in the care for patients. I also was provided with no discharge paper work. I’m not sure on laws in Florida but in Illinois this would not fly.

Recently had a procedure at this hospital--could not have been better! The surgical staff was GREAT! So pleasant, professional, and caring. They were very pleasant towards each other and everyone sanitized their hands when entering and leaving my room. This new hospital so beautiful- Makes an attitude difference for care. Dumpy places feel like your getting dumpy care. I bet it makes a difference on the employees too. These are things patients notice that the staff may not be aware of. Not that I want another procedure....but if I need one -it will be at SMH Venice!

One hour into my girls trip vacation in Venice, I slipped (alcohol was not even involved yet) and fell. Dislocated my ankle and fractured my tibia. I cannot say enough good things about all of the staff there. They are extremely kind, caring, and patient. From my case worker, to nurses, techs, doctors, chef staff are all the best. Never once heard anyone being grumpy about their jobs. The hospital is gorgeous, too. Thank you everyone for taking great care of me.

At one time I thought very highly of SMH and the compassionate care they give to patients; my recent visit to the laurel road emergency room contradicted that image. I was greeted by a staff member who couldn’t figure out how to update my handprint. She got frustrated then gave up; I was then told to wait and be triaged. The Emt & PRN who saw me in triage were very friendly and understood my complaints however once moved to the back I was told to sit on a bed in the hallway next to a office room where 3 woman vigorously gossiped about their personal life’s. I got up and asked where the restroom was & used it. After I met a emt & nurse who were very unfriendly and demanded I “gave a large blood sample” from the bed located in a high traffic hallway in the emergency room I voiced I did not want my blood drawn in the hallway but the nurse gave me the impression she was taking my blood if I liked it or not, meanwhile the EMT was making comments to the nurse about how I didn’t ask her for a urine sample cup but I went to the Restroom in which I responded with “when Is it the patients responsibility to ask for a urine cup?”. After getting my blood drawn & I was feeling extremely light headed. I decided I was leaving and not allowing nurses to do uncomfortable things to me anymore; before leaving I spoke with a register about my “demographics” I asked to make a complaint multiple times and was never greeted by a friendly face to resolve what had just happened. Thus I will not recommend or use SMH @laurel road.
